The multi-modal sensor array cataloged against contemporary medical-device taxonomy.

The OLS sensor stack — what the period's marketing called the Biometric Integration and what its critics called the Affective Signal Translator — was, in operation, the apparatus's afferent nerve. The stack comprised six concurrent reads against the seated occupant: a headrest camera tracking facial action units at sub-second resolution; a work-terminal microphone tracking vocal stress and pace; chest-plate contact electrodes reading cardiac signal and heart-rate variability; armrest electrodermal sensors reading galvanic skin response; a work-terminal infrared array tracking pupillometric signal; a work-terminal eye-tracker tracking gaze direction and saccadic patterns.

What distinguishes the OLS sensor stack from contemporaneous wearable instruments is the fusion layer. Each modality fed a corresponding model; the model outputs were combined at an onboard fusion processor; the fused output was published, at approximately four hertz, to the apparatus's other subsystems as a continuous occupant-state vector. The vector encoded inferences about emotional valence, arousal, cognitive load, attention deficit, fatigue, hormonal cycle phase, and pharmacological state — none of which the occupant was asked to authorise, and most of which the occupant could not, in any meaningful sense, have authorised, because the occupant could not have known what was being inferred.

The forensic record of the sensor stack is, in our period, partial. Most surviving units were defaced during the cohort-2049 cataloging operation; the manufacturer's calibration records were sealed under the Eternal-tier contracts until 2099. What survives is principally inference from the apparatus's external behavior, recovered through testimony from the period's resistance literature and from a small number of intact units recovered from the 2058–2061 refurbished aftermarket.

The most consequential historical question about the sensor stack is whether the period's occupants knew what was being read. The surviving Service Agreement documentation discloses the categories of measurement ("facial," "cardiac," "electrodermal"); it does not disclose the inferences drawn from them, and it does not, in any version we have recovered, identify the fusion layer's downstream consumers. The asymmetry between disclosure and operation is the case's most retrievable feature.
